Leamington Underground Cinema‘s first ever film festival begins tonight. Taking place at a number of venues in the monarchy-endorsed town of Royal Leamington Spa, the festival will showcase six feature films and 85 shorts over the coming week. The festival’s organisers have been inundated with over 700 short film entries, and will kick things off tonight by screening The Secret Society of Fine Arts, a feature-length film from the delightfully avant-garde international film collective Zentropa. As such, the event promises to shed light on some of the freshest talent in film making from both the UK and abroad. Nearly all of the screenings are free to attend, and those nights that require tickets will only set you back a fiver – so why not come along and enjoy some great films for next to nothing?
I’ll be concentrating on the short films, so watch this space for news, reviews and interviews about the very best entries, all of which are competing for the £1000 LUC Short Film Prize.
